DOCTRINE OF THE PUPIL OF THE EYE

A.  The pupil of the eye is an anthropomorphism used to describe God’s love and protection for Israel.

B.  The pupil of the eye is analogous to the wall of fire around Israel.

C.  The wall of fire means that only god has the right to punish Israel when necessary. Therefore, anti-Semitism is anti-God.

D.  The pupil of the eye passages emphasize the fact that anti-Semitism will be punished by God, and kindness to the Jew will result in blessing from God.

            1. Deut 32:9-10, “For the Lord’s portion is His people, Jacob is the allotment of His inheritance. He found him in a desert land [Egypt], and in the howling waste of a wilderness; He encircled him, He cared for him, He guarded him as the pupil of His eye.”

            2. Ps 17:8, “Guard me as the pupil of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings.”

            3. Prov 7:2, “Keep my commandments and live, and my doctrine as the pupil of your eye.”

            4. Zech 2:8, “For thus says the Lord of the Armies, `After the glory [Second Advent] He [God the Father] has Me [God the Son] against the nations which plunder you, for he who touches you, touches the pupil of My eye.”
