DOCTRINE OF THE VINEYARD

A.  The vine and the vineyard are used figuratively for Israel as a nation, Ps 80:8 cf Isa 5:2; Mt 21:33.

B.  To dwell under a vine was a picture of national happiness and prosperity, 1 Kg 4:25; Ps 128:3; Micah 4:4.

C.  The vine is used to depict the Jews in revolt, Isa 5:2,4; Jer 2:21; Hos 10:1.

D.  Restoration of Israel is depicted under a growing vine, Hos 14:7.

E.  The wood in a vine is worthless.  The worthlessness of the wood of the vine is used to depict the fifth cycle of discipline to Judah, Ezek 15.  In verse 7, the first fire is national conspiracy; the second fire is national destruction.

F.  Therefore, the vine and vineyard are used to depict the fifth cycle of discipline, Isa 5:7; Jer 12:10; Isa 32:10.

G.  The vineyard is used to illustrate the prosperity of the Millennium.  Isa 65:21; Ezek 28:26.
